"Doppelganger," by David Tallerman

Perfectly matched shadows fell-
In different rooms,
On different streets.
Living in ignorance
You walked in light,
Driven by no great need.
You felt small loves,
Small hates,
Took simple joys,
And feared.

Thirty years spent hunting,
Thinking it was all I was
Or could be.
Thirty years of hate.
Did you imagine, brother?
Could you have known?
That I was out there
With Your face,
Your hands,
Your skin.

You never looked for me,
Not looking, found me.
What did you think
When everything you knew
Broke like a mirror?
Now I can't hate you
Little brother,
Little ghost.
I like your life,
It fits completely.
