TORONTO, Ontario (January 30, 2010) - ChiZine Publications has released the six titles it will be publishing in Fall 2010.
Notable among the titles released is Nexus: Ascension by Robert Boyczuk, whose Horror Story and Other Horror Stories was the first short story collection released by ChiZine Publications, making Boyczuk the first CZP author with multiple titles. Paul Tremblay's In the Mean Time will contain the short story "The Blog at the End of the World," which won ChiZine's 14th Chiaroscuro Short Story Contest. Tony Burgess, author of People Live Still in Cashtown Corners, is also the author of Pontypool Changes Everything, recently adapted into the motion picture Pontypool, directed by Bruce McDonald.
"Some things seem new, but are the same," says co-publisher Brett Alexander Savory. "For example: Gord Zajac's Major Karnage, which we're calling 'comedy-horror.' This might seem weird considering what we've put out already, but it fits. It's strong writing with a genre edge. Then there's Bob Boyczuk's Nexus: Ascension. It's hard SF and our first SF title since Filaria, which kicked us off as a publisher, but again—it fits. Just because it's a hard SF novel doesn't mean our fans won't like it. It might open doors to new readers who don't like horror, but will read SF."
"Then there's the 'literary' word we've used for four of the six titles," adds co-publisher Sandra Kasturi. "What does 'dark literary fiction' mean? If you've read our books, you'll understand. If not, calling something 'horror' or 'fantasy' puts an unfair label on it. 'Horror' conjures up monsters or axe-murderers instead of what we're going for—using strong characters and great writing to evoke situations that are truly unnerving."
As with all CZP titles, hardcovers, trade paperbacks, and eBooks will be released at the same time. Pre-ordering for the August books will begin sometime in the late spring/early summer.
